This
painting was an early ground-breaker for me. It started as a painting
that just wasn't going to succeed. At the time, I had always just
painted "forward"--I had never backed up by removed something I had
painted. When the initial failure of this work was heading to the
trash--my second utter reject--my partner, Bill, mentioned how much he
liked the background. That started me thinking, and solvent entered
the picture, literally. Not only did I remove the offending part of
the original piece, but I also "drew" with the solvent, creating the
arcs.
Subsequently, this painting was the very first I ever sold to a complete stranger, at my debut public showing!
