This
year, when I sold one of this series and framed it and hung it in its
new home, I became aware of the true power of scale and the particular
power of these compositions. The most dynamic quality of these
paintings is the conversation between figure and ground: what is the
background, what is the foreground and how are the two intermingled or
confused. I was also struck by the meditative power of the scale of
the reality of these large works.
