On
my second trip to Arizona, I revisited the kachina series (two makes a
series, right?). The Eagle Dancer took a lot more meticulous brushwork
before I could insert the figure, and the back painting largely negated
the printed figure. This piece is almost a transition out
of collage into something else--"between"-painting? This is also
the first instance that I allowed myself the foresight of choosing some
of the background colors by CAD trials before committing to the actual
painting. Perhaps I had invested so much in the pre-painting of the
kachina decoration, that I was less inclined to allow full-reign to my
"intuition." Nevertheless, I discovered a new tool for times of need.
