I
took my first showing in Arizona as impetus for attempting an new twist
on my collage technique: Kachina figures. This painting requires that
I break my basic strategy of painting backgrounds first, as this style
requires that the decorative features of the figure be established
before the figure is inserted. Nevertheless, I feel that the
spontenaeity I am always trying to foster comes through. I also really
like the way the tissue paper "cracked" when back painted with a bit
too much solvent--it gives a really dried-earth feel, very evocative of
the subject at hand.
