This was the most surprising, to
me, of my concentric circle paintings. I had thought I would do a
completely "organized," predictable composition--and just concentrate
on choosing the color associations. When I finished, I was surprised at
how "unbalanced" my composition, created on a distinct grid, turned
out! This painting always engages the viewer, with its undulations, both
compositionally and "dimensionally"--the circles move side to
side because of the different weight of each element, despite their
grid-centric anchors; and they move in and out, too, as a result of the
light/dark values of the circle components.
